This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The students I serve are all special needs students from Kindergarten to the 5th grade. My school is a title I school and all students receive free breakfast and lunch. The majority of these comes from single parent homes and live in public housing.
Many of these students have an incarcerated or deceased parent(s).
The students here display a variety of behavior and academic challenges. Our school is currently a priority school and receiving outside support to increase the Standards of Learning scores.
My Project
Many of my students have special needs; therefore, you must be innovative with different approaches to instruction. Many of them are unable to use pencils and paper, they love when technology is implemented within the daily lesson. Lots of students are unable to independently read and enjoy interactive books. Nevertheless, having an iPad will allow them to be able to hear stories and be able to positively interact with written literature. Reading is still fundamental even when you are not a tradition style learner. iPads are great for students with mobility, fine and gross motor skill, and independent reading.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
