This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Every student has an innate desire to learn. However, when many people hear special education, they forget this. Upon entering my resource class, you will quickly discover students who truly desire to investigate the world around them. Unfortunately, many of the students feel defeated walking in the door. They know they are not where their peers are, but the thirst of knowledge is still there.
My goal is to instill in them the confidence to show their accomplishments.
Some do this through artwork, oral presentations, or technology. It just takes a bit of creativity to allow them to truly shine.
My Project
These graphic novels,(comic books for those of us that are of the older persuasion), will help capture my special needs students interest and insure they are engaged and actually learning! Visual learners need more stimuli to keep their attention.
Many of my students are visual learners and when they see and pull inferences from the exciting pictures and text they will be learning without realizing it.
Growing up we didn’t have iPads or xbox so we read comic books and cereal boxes at breakfast. Reading is the foundation for all other learning so let’s make sure my kids are rock solid!
More than half of students from low‑income households
