Special Education Students Become Scientists

My students need books and technology to learn more about their fourth and fifth grade science curriculum!

My Students

All children should have the same opportunities as their peers. Students at risk often don't receive them, especially those who face learning disabilities. These students are fully capable of learning and understanding grade-level concepts; however, they just learn differently.

My students all come from a diverse town, in northern Virginia.

Many of my students come from single family homes and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. Currently, I teach students in a resource room as a fifth grade teacher.

My Project

Fifth grade is such an important grade. Not only do my students need to transition into middle school, but they have important state tests this school year. One of them being the Science SOL.

Thanks to you and Tom's of Maine, my students will be prepared to rock the SOLs this year!

These books will further their understanding of the difficult concepts they must learn. A document camera will not only help my visual learners during lessons, but will reduce the amount of paper normally being used. Instead, the document camera will be able to project the lesson for the students to look up to see instead of on individual papers. A charging station will allow my students to use our technology every day.
