My Students

All of the children in our small preschool classroom pay attention when the teacher reads a picture book. We have several books, but the children could really use a small bookshelf and a place to sit when looking at books on their own.

We are a preschool special education class.

The children have moderate to severe disabilities. They are all very sweet, and they enjoy being at school. We are one of two special education preschool classes on an elementary school campus. This is our first year on campus in an effort to integrate a little more with the general education students.

My Project

We have books for our reading/library center, but we need a small book shelf and seating. I think an inviting area to sit and a small accessible shelf would encourage the students to look at and interact with the books more. I chose a sturdy shelf that will not fall over if bumped by a child, especially little children who may be learning to walk. In addition, the small sofa has a vinyl covering to make cleaning easier.

Our project is important because our students should have a reading/library center.

We want to give our special needs children access to literature and introduce them to stories and books. A small separate area of the classroom where the books and the children can spend time together would be ideal.
