My Project

I serve special education students at the high school level. I am preparing my students to not only learn academically, but functionally, as they learn hands-on occupations that will allow them to be experienced in a variety of vocational areas.

My classroom is in desperate need of basic necessities needed throughout the school year.

Students who are a part of the Occupational Course of study go to work and complete duties on and off campus just as if they were hired for the position that they complete. Their day begins just as general education students with academics and instruction first, mid-morning they prepare to learn functional skills such as: making coffee to start their day, learning independent living skills (cooking, cleaning, basic home maintenance, and personal health), budgeting, banking, credit management, and financial planning, just to name a few.

Most of my students have limited support at home and I do not expect or require families to send items to school, especially during this time where most families are not able to provide basic needs at home much less school.

My student come to school eager to learn and appreciate anything that I am able to do for them. They enjoy venturing outside of the classroom to learn everyday skills that will assist them in the real world. I try my hardest to prepare them as best I can to be productive and hardworking citizens once they graduate from high school with my limited time with them. Although most of my students have deficits that prevent them from preforming at a higher level, they each have their own strengths and talents which I focus on individually.
