Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Give this project a boost!
A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
I teach a self-contained special education classroom. Most of my students are wheelchairs users and are non-verbal. This does not stop us from learning, though! We work on improving their skill set each day but we need some special supplies to help us get there.
I teach children with severe and profound disabilities.
In addition to their disabilities, a lot of my students also come from low-income or middle income families. This prohibits them from being able to buy the supplies that is needed to help out at school. Some of my students also have health issues in addition to their disabilities. They have the sweetest dispositions and they love to be at school and to learn new things. They just need the resources to help them get there!
My Project
My students will use the materials to help them reach the goals outlined in their IEPs as well as additional (non-academic) goals that we have set. Things like special scissors and pencil grips will help their fine motor skills improve. The stamps will help them learn to write their letters and words by giving them things to trace. The carpet will be used for floor activities, therapy, and also rest time for the students so that they do not have to lay on the hard floor. These students will one day be able to write and speak freely and these items will help them get there faster.
My students work harder to do daily tasks than anyone else.
Task that you don't even realize you are doing (walking, talking, eating, writing, etc.) are a struggle for them. Items and supplies to help them can be very costly and hard to come by, especially in such a rural, low-income area. These donations could help change their lives by helping them learn how to independently do these everyday tasks. These students deserve the chance to do all of these things and with these materials they can.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
