Special Education Inclusion Class in Need of a Computer
My students need and deserve an Apple MacBook in the classroom, so they can have a chance to be exposed to technology in the classroom just like any other student.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I was utterly dismayed when I transferred to a new school to find out that they have an extremely small technology budget to serve over 400 students. One would be lucky to be allotted one computer. It is my belief that my students should have access to a computer.
I am a New York City public school teacher in my 6th year of teaching.
After 5 years of teaching I made the decision to transfer to a high needs school. I teach a 6th grade special education (multiple subjects) class. My classroom demographic is diverse. My students are of ages 12-15. They have been diagnosed with learning disabilities (speech/language impairment, cognitive/developmental delays, etc.), sensory impairments (visual, auditory), related health alerts (ADD/ADHD) and emotional/behavioral disorders (EBD). I have a class of 12 children this year, 11 boys and 1 girl. All of my students receive free school lunch. 90% of my students are from broken homes, group homes and/or foster homes. Most of them are below grade level in reading and require tremendous support academically.
My Project
Students will be able to use the laptop for educational programs and conduct research. The laptop will be used to address the various learning styles within my classroom. From experience I've learned that students, especially those with learning disabilities, respond so well with the use of technological applications during the learning process. I have witnessed so many educational breakthroughs with the use of technology in the classroom with my previous students. It will also enable me to create lessons and presentations for my students to learn. I will also be able to keep student records, generate reports, create activity sheets, assessment materials, and newsletters for parents, and much more.
I am sharing my proposal with DonorsChoose because I would like to request a laptop for my classroom.
Your donation would be greatly appreciated by my students, my school and myself. This opportunity will help to bridge the digital divide. Your donation will give my students an opportunity to be exposed to technologically enhanced learning. Your donation will give my students the opportunity to enhance their learning.
