Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The students in my class have been diagnosed with disabilities such as autism, speech and language disorders, and learning disabilities. The special education students in my class have very different learning styles. However, most of these students benefit from new material presented visually. Visual thinking and learning utilize graphical ways of working with ideas and presenting information. Research in both educational theory and cognitive psychology tells us that visual learning is among the very best methods for teaching students of all ages how to think and learn. A new color printer and copy machine would allow us to print images to help students gain a deeper understanding of new material and allow students to have their own reference materials.

It will allow me to produce a print-rich environment which is necessary for kindergartners to progress and learn in.

The reading curriculum we use requires me to print a lot of color graphics. The visual representation of words is a big part of how my students learn and they would struggle without them. I do my best to get my students the materials they need, but sometimes we need help from others. Having access to a color printer and copy machine is not a luxury, it is a necessity.
