Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Being in a Title I school, there are limited resources and support given to teachers. Teachers of students with severe learning disabilities are constantly challenged in the classroom and have to design creative solutions for independent and individualized learning.
My goal is to create engaging activities for my students to excel in their in-person and digital learning, and I cannot do that without tools and manipulatives.
Students in this classroom are energetic and engaged when correlating their classroom learning with the world around them. My goal with this project is not only to give students the skills needed to be independent individuals but also to support the parents through the difficulty of digital learning.
I hope to instill in my students an excitement and love of learning about the world around them. The items listed will support my students and their families in navigating this digital school year and give them the tools they require to succeed.
My Project
The 2020-2021 school year promises to be full of ups and downs, twists and turns. As a teacher of ASD-1, a self-contained autism-spectrum disorder classroom of cognitively severe levels of students, my colleagues and I are trying our best to ensure that our students get the best support, both at home and at school. This year, we have students who will be in the classroom, and others who choose to be digital for their safety.
Whether families choose for their child to be in-person or digital, this choice should not limit their access to their education.
This is why, with your donation, our students will be able to access functional and educational goals that will help them succeed in my classroom and beyond.
In our Title I school, we have a limited number of devices to send home to our parents. With the tablets, students will be able to digitally interact with their teachers and complete school work. The writing tablets and activity pad will be used with students in the classroom to help develop their writing skills in a fun, engaging way.
The sensory items will be used in the classroom and at home to keep students on task. With an ASD-1 classroom, our students have sensory processing needs that go well beyond a stress ball. If students have a tool that will help them sit through our synchronous digital lessons, that will help the teachers and parents with their individual educational goals.
