My Project

The items within this project will allow my students with moderate-to-severe disabilities to learn essential daily living skills while building on their independence and self-advocacy skills. Within my classroom, we operate by the expectation that if you make a mess, you clean it up, regardless of the student's ability. That is why modifications, like the carpet sweeper, will allow students with limited mobility to clean up after themselves with little support.

An example of this necessity is that my students eat breakfast, occasional lunch, and snack within the classroom.

This sets up a situation where food crumbs will inevitably be left on the tables, chairs, and floor. In order to not attract any unwanted critters, adequate cleaning needs to be done afterward. And that responsibility is expected to be resolved by the student who created the mess.

I greatly appreciate any support that can be given to this project! My students with moderate-to-severe disabilities face massive hurdles with each day, but helping them to gain independence within these everyday skills will aid massively in their lives for years to come. Thank you!
