A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
My students love building with their math counting cubes. Even though their purpose is for math, I have been allowing them to play with the counters at the end of the day to work as a team to construct buildings, cars, bridges, and a lot more things! Watching my students be creative with their math counters has sparked an idea to create a Lego station students can use for the last 30 minutes of their school day. Legos have endless benefits for ALL students! For starters, fine motor skills are developed and enhanced, allowing students to perform more intricate tasks with greater ease over time. Another thing students will learn is the art of persistence. Lego provides the perfect platform for developing this key character trait that will serve them well all throughout their lives.
Building with Legos is a multi-sensory, open-ended experience, so the building projects can be tailored to any person’s unique needs, such as blindness, deafness, mobility impairment, autism or ADHD.
Problem solving is also a skill that every person in the world needs to develop, and Legos are the perfect way to teach that. Remember, there is no right or wrong, so it’s perfect for creative minds too. Lego offers up a great activity that also teaches students how to solve a variety of problems!
