My Project
We teach a group of amazing, curious, and hardworking general and special education students in first grade. About sixty percent of our students have a range of disabilities, some of which include learning disabilities, physical disabilities, emotional disturbances, speech and language impairments, and Autism Spectrum Disorder. Like any other class, our students' abilities and interests range across a wide spectrum. All of our students require individual or small group attention. Each day, we incorporate all of their learning styles, interests, and special education accommodations into our lessons. Some of our students prefer visual or auditory cues for learning, while some require a more kinesthetic or tactile approach. Our students come into our classroom each day with a love of school and a desire to grow as a learner.
Our students are a caring group who believe strongly in fairness for everyone; we are currently working on identifying problems and solutions in stories, and we are taking this to the next level by identifying problems in our community!
There is currently a lot of congestion in front of our school in the mornings. Our school entrance is on a side street that is a two-way, but in the mornings between drop-off hours, it turns into a one-way. Unfortunately for many, lots of cars still create a two-way street. This is both dangerous and troublesome for families at morning drop-off. We will make posters to address this problem, and we will hang them on the street sign so that drivers can see that they should not be coming down that road during drop-off time. The markers will allow for a great pop of color in our posters, hoping to catch the eye of anybody who looks their way!
