Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students are a diverse group of boys and girls with amazing personalities that blow us away every day. Our students live in the heart of a bustling urban center. They are primarily African-American and Latino. We are a special needs public school. We have students from all over our city who attend some of our special programs.

All of my students have special needs, many are diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder and/or Multiple Disabilities.

Their communication skills range from non-verbal to just needing a few pragmatic tweaks. They are learning to communicate in their own ways as they learn not only life skills but academics as well.

My Project

Our students have a wide range of abilities. Those skills are assessed with some of our standardized tests. Those tests come with blank forms/booklets that are written in and put into the students folder. We need to top off our supplies of those blank forms to continue testing. Once the students are assessed we need to have a wide range of materials for them to address all of these skills.

Our students have had a tough time this year adjusting to the varying routines of 2020, so they need some new games and activities to get them excited about being in school again.

We need games and materials to address grammar skills, such as pronouns (fill-in sentence cards), prepositions (Bingo game), and verbs (sentence and picture cards). Some students need to work on feelings with various matching games and others need to work on following directions. The Go-Together game will help the student further their categorization skills and/or relationships between objects. The Auditory Memory game will help students process information.

We want our students to be motivated and excited to learn with these materials.
