My Students

As one of two Library Media Specialists, I oversee all audio-visual equipment for my school, including LCD projectors, DVD players, and streaming media. Hearing media is just as important as seeing it.

I am one of two Library Media Specialists at my high school, an urban public school serving grades nine through twelve.

I am responsible for curating materials, technology education and maintenance, along with all facets of the library's day to day operation. More than sixty-five percent of my students receive free or reduced price lunch. A vast number are English Language Learners and many are first generation Americans. They are athletes, musicians, actors, and artists. Over fifteen hundred students walk the same halls I did. I am proud to live and teach in the same community I grew up in and where I am raising my son.

My Project

Our school was built in 1963. The classroom acoustics are not conducive to modern media. My students use online presentation software that includes videos that classmates cannot hear with the small internal speakers of their teacher's laptop or LCD projector. We would like more teachers to use our streaming media subscriptions, but the biggest complaint we receive is "they can't hear it!". These speakers would be available for sign out to any teacher to utilize with their laptop, LCD, or DVD player.

Our students are visual and auditory learners.

Right now, many teachers show less video than they'd to like, simply due to not having adequate speakers. Students want to show multimedia presentations, but need sound to do it. Please consider helping us hear better!
