Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Happiness is what I normally see when my students use technology. Their sparkling eyes are always attentive and they just concentrate and forget about time. Using technology with education is like spending time in your favorite hobby and where you do not have to worry about the moment.

I have a First Grade Bilingual class.

Most of my students come from families who are only Spanish speakers and some of their parents struggle to help their own kids with learning tasks such as their homework. However, most of the parents are always ready to help and that is something that I always appreciate. The huge majority of the students in the school are Hispanic (97%) and 94% are economically disadvantaged. Lack of money is another good reason why we need to provide the students with good technology that is ordinarily expensive.

My Project

My students will use the tablets to practice essential academic concepts such as sounds and names of letters, blending and segmenting, syllables, reading words, fluency, comprehension, numbers, patterns, addition, subtraction, among others. My students will use the tablets during workstations where they do different activities and rotate each 20 minutes, so everyone will have access to them. The tablets will be stationary in a workstation with previously loaded software and applications explicit to target specific needs. In addition, I will use the Surface Pro tablet to prepare lesson plans, analyze student data, input grades, access school district documents, and information. The cases will be used to protect the Surface Pro 3 and the iPad Air.

I believe that my project will make a difference in my students.

They will have the opportunity to practice academic concepts that are essential to the final product that is reading with comprehension, analysis and problem solving. The technological approach will captivate their attention even for the ones who are normally frustrated. It will also lay the base for the 21st century skills they will need in the future.
