This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Reading for the love of reading is what it's all about! I want my students to be captivated by a great book that allows them to explore a new place or adventure.

My students attend a charter school in California.

Our student population represents a diverse multicultural urban setting. Most of my students qualify for free or reduced lunch. Supplies at my school are limited and most of my students and their families do not have the extra resources to be able to purchase a sufficient home library with leveled books.

My Project

These books will allow my students to further develop their comprehension skills (inference, predicting, summarizing, making generalizations, character analysis, etc.) and at the same time will get them excited to read. I would like to start "book clubs" in which the students would work in a small group with specific tasks related to the story (connector, summarizer, fortune teller, illustrator, discussion director, word wizard).

These chapter books are high interest books that they won't be able to put down!

I know these books will show the students how exciting and fun reading can be! This love of reading will follow them throughout their years in school as well as life.
