My Students

Something so special about my job is how many amazing students I get to work with every week. I have the privilege of teaching science/technology to K-4 students at not only one school, but two! It would take quite a while to introduce you to all of them. Let me give you some snippets of why as a group, these children shine.

Some days I wondered if I was the teacher or if they were.

Each school, every grade, every classroom, and every student taught me something during my first year of teaching that has helped shape me into the teacher I am today. From creative ideas, to acceptance of others. I never failed at smiling at these students who may have thought I was just teaching them, but really they're teaching me.

These students are some of the most welcoming and friendly! Last year was my first year of teaching and boy was I nervous. These students made me feel so at home from the beginning. If you're having a bad day, jump into one of my Kindergarten classes because they will spend 30 minutes showering you with compliments if you let them.

My Project

Seeing so many students means I usually have to be creative with the way I use my school budget. In my STEM classroom, we try to incorporate as much hands-on learning as possible. That means my budget goes towards refilling consumable items from science labs and engineering projects.

This STEM library is lacking inspiration and diversity.

I usually turn to libraries or second hand stores searching for books that will help inspire my students to have a love for all things STEM. These books I have chosen will help establish a strong library for my students that range in age level, topics, and abilities. These books will help create awe in my little learners. Create fascination with creating and the ability to keep trying. Some of these books (Mindset Matters, Everyone's Contributions Count, etc.) will provide myself with the tools to build on essential science skills like a growth mindset and teamwork. Others in my collection are intended to inspire students with real life stories (Women in Science) and broaden their understanding of jobs in the STEM field.

I have taken the time to pick out books I really feel will deepen my students love for STEM. Any help that can given will be so appreciated by both myself and my students.
