My Project

In this increasingly digital age, the spark of photography has dulled. Yes, most students probably take a picture of something everyday. Yes, their smartphones probably are more advanced and take better photos. However, they are so easily distracted by their devices and photography has become so intertwined with social media. The simplicity of taking a photo because they find beauty in that moment and wanting to capture it for themselves has faded.

I want students to understand and feel the spark for photography as a means of expression and observation- not to get likes, follows, or interest online.

There is so much talent and expression in my 7th & 8th grade students. I want to bring them the experience of going outside on campus, looking around, taking photos, and really being present in that moment. I want the students to hold a digital camera and begin imagining themselves as photographers. I want that to spark a fire in them to find ways to find and express their identity.
