My Students

I’ve been blessed with a teaching career surrounded by middle school students. Their energy and puppy-like awkwardness make for an exciting and interesting day that is always different from the next. In a 6th through 8th grade middle school, my 7th grade students are at a unique point in their academic career. They have a year of experience, yet another year still full of wonder, giving them the perfect mixture of confidence and curiosity.

As a 7th grade ELA teacher, my classroom is the melting pot of readers and writers.

My students come from different learning backgrounds and have many unique learning styles, however, they are all seeking adventure and looking to escape the ordinary day-to-day. My students are on the hunt for awesome ideas, friends, role models, and inspiration to make life (and school!) fascinating.

My Project

I've accepted the challenge of helping every student find a book they love by the end of the school year. A lofty goal, yes, but it is a goal that has driven me to become a better literacy teacher. Finding books for students to enjoy pushes me to build relationships with my students and understand their interests. It has also helped me to comb through genres and authors that I would not think to ever read.

After conferencing with students, book talking, and nights of careful planning, I've selected a few books that I'm hoping will spark some reading excitement.

I plan to use these books in small groups for students to read, explore, laugh, and learn together. When students can talk about books they love with friends, they are more likely to grow their love for reading. Adding amazing books to our classroom library will help keep my students immersed in a positive, engaging reading environment.
