My Students

I teach 11th graders in a non-selective public school located in an under served area of North Philadelphia. Our school focuses on teaching students content within meaningful and realistic settings.

Students learn skills that prepare them for college and careers by working collaboratively on meaningful and realistic projects and then have the opportunity to share their work with peers, families, and industry partners.

My students are desperate to understand why school is important or helpful to their lives. Prior to high school most of our students have had little to no exposure to different career fields. We work with each student to understand their specific passions and then encourage them to use their own power and agency to realize their dreams and give back to society.

My Project

Hands on projects bring learning to life. My project introduces 11th and 12th grade computer science students to computer programming by allowing them to learn to create computer code that will navigate a robot through an obstacle course.

The Sphero SPRK+ STEAM Educational Robots allow students to start learning to program through simple block programming.

Students can see what their code looks like in traditional Java Script language and see how their code can manipulate the movement of the robotic ball.

In addition to introducing students to computer coding, students will begin to understand the role that computer programmers play in the field of robotics and game development.

By donating to this project you will be helping to inspire my students to dive deeper into the role of computers in society and open up their eyes to potential career opportunities.
