My Students

My community, school, and classroom are supportive places where students are encouraged to learn and grow. We have a diverse population of students with multiple linguistic, cultural, and economic backgrounds --and that's part of what makes us so great! My students love to do hands-on activities and engaging projects that allow them to show their thinking and share with the other children in class. The interruption of typical classroom projects during COVID and distance learning has made sharing more difficult. Sometimes during COVID it was difficult to even do projects because the students didn't have the needed materials at home. Each year I get to work with amazing students who are inquisitive and excited to continue learning and pursue new levels of independence.

Through sharing their own personal solutions, pictures, and opinions, students show their thinking which leads to discussions where they can learn from and support each other in positive ways.

Having materials readily available where you can quickly construct your answer is needed so that you can give your full attention to classmates and then be able to communicate and compare your own ideas.

My Project

As we work on the gaps in learning that many experienced during COVID, the use of whiteboards is almost a daily activity in my classroom, especially in math to show and share the model of their strategy and work. The paper, stapler, and other supplies of the sort will be used by the students, so that they may create their own writing and projects. These supplies will help our classroom run smoothly from day to day as they provide skill related work to enhance the print-rich classroom.

By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase student attention and focus, you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement.

With these new materials, my students will be able to choose from a variety of books that will allow them to read independently at their own grade level. The best way to increase reading ability is to read and write more, and these materials will continue to help my students grow stronger in their abilities. Students will be able to simply focus on the academic material at hand, and not if they have the needed materials or whether their materials are going to work or not.

Standards that will be addressed by materials in this project are:

Social Studies (SS.2.10 and SS.2.21) talking about significant events in our nation’s history and major national landmarks associated with historical events.

ELA (RL.2.1, W.2.7, SL.2.1) talking about reading a variety of texts and responding through writing and discourse with peers.

Math (all standards for mathematical practices SMP #1-8, 2.NBT.B.5, 2.NBT.B.9) talking about showing their work as students learn and reason through new problems, often beginning by being supported with pictures
