This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This year I am teaching Spanish Languager arts for two classrooms. One of the classrooms is a second grade classroom where 70% of the students are reading and writing at a Kindergarten or early First Grade level. In addition they have shorter attention spans than most second graders due to difficulties with their instruction the prior year. The whole group instruction curriculum that I have will not be enough for them. I need literacy games and primary writing notebooks and pencils to support their literacy needs.

We will be writing daily in short amounts focusing on complete sentences, letter sound relationships, spacing and letter formation.

The Primary Journals that I am asking for will help us work on letter formation and will provide a less intimidating source for writing. The Primary Journals have writing space that is larger and the lines are divided by a dotted line to help students understand the shape and size of the letters better. Many students do not know that a lower case letter needs to be smaller than a capital letter or that some of the lines in letters like h need to go to the top while in n the line needs to stay in the middle. I will need to meet with most students in small groups to support this. While I meet with a small group I need activities that will support student learning and keep the other students focused so that I can concentrate on the small group. I will be doing learning centers where each group has an activity for 15 minutes and then we switch. I need to do my best to accelerate them this first trimester so that I can begin teaching the 2nd grade curriculum to all the students in the 2nd and 3rd trimesters of
