This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Hello! I am a Kindergarten Immersion teacher in a large urban area of California. My school educates a high-needs population of WONDERFUL children in a two-way Spanish immersion program.

As amazing as my students are, they face daily struggles in our surrounding community, and school is often the only safe-haven they have. I am so grateful that my students have the opportunity to learn in two languages and become bilingual adults, but the quest to find authentic Spanish language materials is never ending. A large amount of time is spent translating English materials to Spanish, and I would much rather spend that time focusing on my students. Additionally, I have been fighting to keep a quality science curriculum a part of our daily education, something that is all too often lost due to the pressures of testing.

I am a firm believer in the importance of science education in schools, as well as providing students authentic materials in their native language to support their learning. The funding of these Spanish language science materials will provide my students with engaging science experiences that not only expand their science knowledge, but support their Spanish language learning as well.

You will make it possible for my students to foster a love for science, while also feel validated by authentic materials that support their Spanish language development. Thank you so much!
