Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is located in the heart of a suburban downtown. The campus includes a historical building that is a part of the charming urban landscape. Our student body is a very diverse population that enriches our campus environment with culture.

Half of the student population participates in the free or reduced-price lunch program due to financial needs.

We are extremely grateful for students to have the opportunity to come to class focused on learning rather than on how to get their next meal.

My students are in my class to learn how to speak and communicate in Spanish. My students are eager to learn the language and how to actually use it. By embracing a newer method of teaching foreign language, I am able to keep that initial excitement alive throughout the year. My students are eager to have more materials that will enhance their exposure to the Spanish language.

My Project

Reading is one of the best ways to acquire language and spark the imagination. My students need readers like Los piratas and las ninas rebeldes will help them acquire vocabulary in an interesting, relevant way.

Students will feel a huge sense of pride and accomplishment after reading through their first novel in Spanish.

These thirty-four requested readers are made for language learners, so it is possible to read an entire novel in Spanish thanks to the limited, but relevant vocabulary. My goal is to remind students that reading can be fun as they embark on learning to read all over again in a second language.
