My Students

I recently began a Spanish program for Kindergarten through 5th grade. Next year, this continues with a culture and literacy course for 6th graders which will enhance their knowledge before they take Spanish 1 in 7th and 8th grade.

These students are rural area students and seldom are they integrated into other cultures.

Our students are very open-minded to new cultures and they want to embrace and learn new things. With our area, there is not a lot for us to experience outside the classroom, so we are trying to bring the culture to them.

My Project

The resource we are requesting is a class set of the novel "The Tequila Worm" which goes through a young girl's life in her neighborhood and her dreams to go beyond what her family was ever able to do. Our students will be able to compare their life to Sofia's and compare the Hispanic culture and their own. In many ways, students will find similarities, as well as differences.

Your donations will help us fulfill part of our Spanish culture and literacy curriculum.

Every student passing through the 6th grade will be reading this novel as a passageway through middle school, as well as experience a culture different from their own. Our school is striving towards literary excellence and this award winning novel will help us achieve our goals.
