This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are amazing. Most of them have been at the school since kindergarten and our school is special because we can really develop a close relationship with each individual student as they grow up.

As a school with a bilingual program, students are immersed in rigorous instruction in both English and Spanish.

There are numerous benefits to being bilingual, and students work very hard to access the curriculum despite it being a challenge. We have both Spanish-dominant and English-dominant speakers, which means that one hundred percent of our students are second language learners.

My Project

My students are eager to continue practicing and developing their Spanish language. However, by the time they get to middle school, they become less engaged in Spanish and practice less on their own. Our middle school team decided to put together a WIN (What I Need) Block where we offer options for our middle schoolers to obtain extra support in areas that they struggle in.

In our Spanish WIN block, we decided as a group to develop a Spanish Theater performance that students will perform for kindergarten, first and second graders.

My middle schoolers have been working hard to practice their lines and build houses with cardboard for the set. The little ones really admire their older peers and this will be a great way for them to connect!
