My Students

Students at LaGuardia Arts are an amazing conglomeration of what New York is, a melting pot of academic abilities, cultures and artistic talents. We are so fortunate to have a dual mission which supports students' traditional academic learning while nurturing their talents and gifts. Students attend our school from all over New York City - some with very little exposure to the arts, some from "industry" families, some from poverty stricken neighborhoods, others having had professional experience on stage or TV, and others having practiced their craft since they were toddlers. All of them, though, are talented artists.

Our students have the opportunity to learn their craft in the greatest city in the world with the most talented people on earth.

Our school provides conservatory curriculum in dance, visual art, drama, music, and theater. Students produce amazing works of art each year using their artistic talents to show mastery of Spanish language skills. I do everything I can to incorporate the arts in our lessons. Technology helps with this through video making platforms, YouTube, Lingt language for recordings, and many other educational tools.

My Project

This generation of young people has grown up with technology, so integrating more in the classroom is crucial to student success. It's so impressive what they are able to do! Since they all have different technology experiences, the variety of MacBook, Dell and HP will give them choices for their creativity! Mac's digitial typography and adobe applications are great for our technical theater students and graphic arts students to create Spanish projects while other students are more comfortable with a PC to share their work. Students can create and edit videos, research culturally specific music and art or view Spanish language interviews or news to integrate into their schoolwork. We will also use technology to complete our group projects in class, create oral recordings on platforms like lingtlanguage.com and make use of the many online language programs.

Since they are comfortable with technology, the challenges of using a second language is minimized. Students are able to show off their talents while working cooperatively. The different types of computers and printer gives them lots of options for submitting work that I can assess. The laptops and printer will allow students to produce and print right in the classroom or print out work they've created at home. Whatever the use in our classroom, students will use the laptops and printer to turn in for speaking, writing, reading, and listening the target language while giving me easy access to evaluate progress.
