Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The majority of the students in my class are new to the US and are so excited to improve their English language skills. Living in a high-poverty area, most students do not have access to books at home. We read daily at school to make sure they learn a love of reading.

I would like to expand my classroom library to include more books in their native language.

These high-interest books such as Diary of a Wimpy Kid and those in the TIME for Kids set will get them reading as they are learning English. The books will help them build vocabulary and comprehension skills. As they progress their language skills, they will be able to transition to the same books in English.
