Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students are inquisitive, bright, and enthusiastic learners. They are interested in learning and staying engaged during our online and in person lessons. Despite the fact that they've been learning remotely due to the pandemic, they are eager to learn. On August 16, students will return to campus.

Unfortunately many families are experiencing unemployment, evictions, COVID-19, and loss of loved ones.

Many students of our community live in small apartments or homes where they live with several families due to the high cost of living. Some families can't afford to buy basic school supplies for their children.

My Project

Our school has an English/Spanish Dual Language Program. However, our books in Spanish are limited compared to our English books. It is important that students feel that both languages are important.

Having access to book in Spanish is a first step in improving the quality of our program.

Providing students with books in which students can see themselves in the stories is important for their self esteem. Being able to stock the first Little Free Library in in town, with books in our students' first language, will enrich their education. This will also help parents who only speak Spanish to have books to read to their children and instill the love of reading in them.
