Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students will walk into our classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day. We are a true melting pot as my students come from all walks of life and different cultures.

My kindergarteners are book loving, super-readers and enthusiastic learners.

They are an amazing and energetic group of Kindergarteners. My students are accessing general education content in two languages (English/ Spanish). We celebrate little wins together each day in both languages. Books are so important to my students and are truly valued to access information in both languages.

My Project

The donations for this project will benefit all my students. I am asking for a variety of Spanish books to support reading and language development. Besides, the books will help to develop language acquisition for my Dual language learners. Often the Spanish book bins are empty, and my students cannot practice their Spanish reading skills. Providing my kindergarteners with additional Spanish books will help my children develop the essential skills in the areas of alphabet knowledge, phonological awareness, and print knowledge that provide a foundation for learning to read.

The Spanish language has a very predictable orthography.

Once children learn the basic sound-symbol correspondences, they can easily decode most Spanish words. My goal is to prepare my kindergarteners with a variety of Spanish text with a high level of accuracy, regardless of the familiarity of the word patterns.

I also included some English books to be added to our library since we don't have enough books to send in their book baggies on a weekly bases. My students began to apply the reading skills they have been learning. During this time, they gradually build their repertoire of sight words, and we need a variety of books with different interests to develop the love of reading.
