This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I will be 50 amazing first graders who are learning Spanish as a second language. I want to be able to meet them with a classroom filled with books for their upcoming school year. According to My partner teacher that was their kindergarten teacher last year, these students are hungry for knowledge in a new language. They already have an amazing community within their cohort and are eager to learn more. These children are resilient and truly one of a kind.

My Project

I am a first year Spanish teacher and more than 1/3 of my students come from low income families. I need to begin building a classroom library and I’m starting from absolute zero. When we do readers workshop, it would be amazing if they had a variety of books to choose from. I want my students to not only learn how to read, but develop a “reader idenity.” This way they can develop interests in different genres at an early age by having a variety of books to choose from. I have 50 students in a dual language program and this would be the starting point for something beautiful!
