My Students

Dynamic, resilient, motivated. Our kids are city kids. They make their way to school each morning by foot, bus or subway and step into school ready to take in all that we offer. They come from different backgrounds, and different parts of the city. But once they step into our building, they become a community.

In September, I will have the opportunity to guide a group of 31 bright and motivated 2nd graders to their full learning potential.

Like every year, we will begin as separate people, getting to know one another. By the end of the year, we will have gelled into a community that shares experiences and feelings through all of the work we shared.

My Project

Having a kidney-shaped group-learning table makes guided learning simple. Because there is a spot at the table designed for a teacher and students sit all around, it is easy to hear and see what each student is doing at all times.

Kidney-shaped tables are specifically designed for group learning and are much more comfortable than sitting on the floor with groups.

No student's learning should be interrupted due to discomfort or being too close to other student's work space!

This table will be used for all subject areas. I run small groups every day during reading, writing, and math. With this type of seating, my students and I will be comfortable and within easy earshot of one another, which will make teaching and learning simpler. Also, my back won't be hunched like it is sitting on the floor for small groups!
