Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I will be working with approximately 30 amazing students who are all of from diverse backgrounds. As diverse as our students are economically and culturally, they are diverse in their academics. Our school is located in South Los Angeles, where most students are underserved.

Our school serves Pre-K-5th grades and is located in the Crenshaw corridor that serves approximately 420 students school-wide.

Five principles guide our work: innovation, critical thinking, learning, preserving, and leadership. Our scholars are motivated, innovative and eager to learn!

My Project

This year, I will begin my first year of teaching! I will be teaching Third Grade this upcoming August in the South LA community. I am beyond excited to start building a classroom library that encompasses the backgrounds, identities, and interests of my students. I have already gotten started with a few books but unfortunately, I am unable to afford to buy all the books my students deserve. This project will help fund many of the books that will help build a culturally relevant library.

With access to so many great books, your donation will set up my students for success and steady literacy development.

Your generous donation to this project will significantly impact our Third Grade classroom because it will provide a diverse classroom library. My students will be able to read, write about and discuss books that relate to them and their life experiences.

It is important for students to develop a love for reading and have access to books at different levels that cater to their needs. This project will ensure that my students are engaged and excited to read! As I continue to gather resources for my students and classroom, my main goals as an educator are to foster an appreciation for diversity, develop critical thinking skills and promote leadership in their community through empowerment. I am hoping to provide access to diverse cultural narratives that pave the way towards their academic development. Any and all help is extremely appreciated! Thank you in advance for supporting my lift off as a social justice educator!
