South Houston Third Graders are Closing the Gap

My students need basic supplies like copy paper, binders, markers, and scissors because their circumstances leave them unable to fulfill their school supply lists. All of these supplies will be used to close the achievement gap my group of students is facing.

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I want to close the achievement gap for my student who are far behind others in more prominent areas. My school is 100% free lunch. 100% of my students have at least one risk factor. I only had 5/25 students fulfill or partially fulfill their supply list. They are sweet kids who deserve the same resources as more fortunate students. Their greatest need is literacy resources because most students come into 3rd reading on a 1st grade level. I want to give them the best chance to close this gap!

My Project

My students can't control their personal circumstances. My school is 100% free lunch and Title 1. All of my kids have some type of risk factor attached to their file. For the 20 out 25 students who are unable to fulfill their school supply list, I am asking for any help you can give to provide them the best chance at closing the achievement gap they are facing in reading and math! All of the supplies I requested will be used for our reading block for daily 5 and Guided Reading lessons. I will also use the supplies for our guided math and math centers. I have already spent hundreds out of pocket and can't afford to spend what I wish I could for these kids. They are sweet and smart kids who deserve the best chance to succeed!
