Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is located in a largely Latinx neighborhood in the South Bronx. Academics alone do not always motivate middle schoolers, and our school has a high percentage of ELL and Special Ed students who benefit greatly from other ways to participate in the school culture. A significant percentage of our boys and girls are participating in organized sports for the first time. Being introduced to team sports in middle school allows them to get a head start on playing high school sports, which can be huge in providing opportunities for success as they determine their college and career goals.

Our students crave opportunities for extracurricular programs, and a new team will allow teachers and staff to hold even more students accountable for their grades, attendance, and behavior.

Our young Athletic Department is growing with the sole purpose of motivating students towards higher academic achievement, physical fitness, and social stability. Our program is expanding, as we will introduce 3 new sports in 2019-2020. This project will help us get our new Fall sport off of the ground and set the tone for an ambitious year ahead!

My Project

The students at our middle school need new opportunities to play organized sports! A co-ed soccer team is the first of several new sports teams our growing Athletic Department is introducing to the students this year. Our kids show off their skills during gym, recess, and our student vs. staff games, and we are hyped to get them out on the field against other schools in the Bronx!

We currently do not have any soccer equipment for our students as we build a new team from scratch.

Our tryouts are set for this week, and our students and coaches are excited to play. This equipment will allow our students to practice, play, and compete this Fall and for seasons to come!
