My Students

I teach Kindergarten at a Title I elementary school where all students qualify for free breakfast and lunch. Our students come from a multitude of diverse backgrounds and cultures. While they come from different places they all share the same goals. These goals include academic achievement and language acquisition.

My classroom is filled with wonderful little ones who all want to learn and have fun doing it.

They are challenged right now with learning the sounds and rules of the English language. My challenge is to differentiate my instruction and activities so they can learn and achieve and be ready for 1st grade.

My Project

Sounds - they are so confusing for children learning the English language. Having phonics activities, other than cutting and pasting pictures, would be such a powerful addition to my instruction.

I'm requesting a variety of hands-on phonics and learning activities and puzzles including Pop & Match Phonics Games, a Sight-Word Skillet, Word Blends Puzzles for new learning centers.

The students will be able to work independently at the centers or with me at our small group learning table. The Pop & Match Phonics games use write & wipe game cards and a color-coded popper. They will use the letters to complete the words on their game cards. (We'll use the requested markers to write on the cards.) The Sight-Word Skillet is a matching game for "sizzling" sight-word practice. And the Sound-It-Out Blends puzzles have a cute picture clue, plus a matching word divided by phonics sound.

I know that these hands-on activities and puzzles will help my children learn their phonics sounds quicker.
