My Students

"Classifying and ordering are natural and interesting to children." My students need to learn to sort objects by attributes because it will promotes thinking logically. I want my students to be able to classify objects and use what they have learned and apply it towards learning to count.

I teach at a wonderful title one school in North Carolina.

The sweetest kindergartners walk into my classroom each day eager and ready to learn. My students require tactile, visual, and auditory experiences to be successful. My students need practice and repetition with many math concepts that will increase their knowledge. All of my students have a strong desire to learn. My students are constantly teaching each other. They are like little sponges that are ready to soak up all the information that is given.

My Project

I am requesting sorting centers for my students to use during math time. Each center includes a sorting tray, activity cards, and plastic miniatures that children can sort in a variety of ways. Students just place a card in the tray, then sort the objects into each compartment. Students may separate objects by color, size, or texture. Sorting activities help children make sense of things around them and help them become flexible thinkers. I want to encourage my students to talk about and describe their sorting selections. I will be able to introduce words such as more, few, many, most, least, and none to describe the sorted groups. Sorting is important because it prepares children to count.

In order for my students to develop foundational math skills in Kindergarten, they need access to hands-on sorting centers.

With your help, my students will have the materials to gain an understanding of math concepts. I appreciate all the amazing people and businesses who so generously give to class projects. I want you to know that it really does make a difference in my classroom.
