This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

If you say the word 'math' to children you can see the fear in their eyes! Kids describe math as difficult and boring. In a world full of video and computer games, it is easy to see why they feel this way. As a math cluster teacher, it is my job to teach math in a new and exciting way!

In the course of a week, I see 25 classes.

The children range in ages and grades from kindergarten to fifth grade. My school is located in New York and is a Title 1 school. The children all receive free breakfast and lunch and come from a variety of ethnic backgrounds.

My Project

The big books will be used to introduce individual shapes to the students whole class. After the shapes are introduced through the books, the sorting centers will be used to review shape understanding in small groups of four students. This way, all of the children will be able to get their hands on the sorting shapes!

Kindergarten students need hands-on manipulatives to keep them interested in learning.

These materials will help me to keep my kindergarten students interested and learning about the shapes that exist in the world around them!
