Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

If you say the word 'math' to children you can see the fear in their eyes! Kids describe math as difficult and boring. In a world full of video and computer games, it is easy to see why they feel this way. As a math cluster teacher, it is my job to teach math in a new and exciting way.

In the course of a week, I see 25 classes.

The children range in ages and grades from kindergarten to fifth grade. My school is located in New York and is a Title 1 school. The children all receive free breakfast and lunch and come from a variety of ethnic backgrounds.

My Project

These sorting materials will be used by kindergarten and first grade students to review sorting in a hands-on way. These materials will help the students sort buttons by color, shape, size...even by the number of button holes! These button sorting centers will be used by a variety of students in a variety of ways, according to their needs and curriculum.

These button sorting centers are important to my students because they will allow the students to learn and review with hands-on manipulatives, which will increase both learning and fun!
