Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My pre-school students are children who are three to five years of age. My school is in sunny San Pedro, California. The children from San Pedro come to school each morning ready to learn and grow. There's never a dull moment in our class; my students are busy bees moving from one interest area to another. They're eager to learn, explore, and experiment with the instructional materials and centers I set up for them. We need instructional materials in our classroom to integrate Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math.

My Project

By sorting the sea animal manipulatives by color and shape my students will be acquiring math concepts which are early stages of math development skills. By engaging with the Shape Sorting Center and the Shape Match Ups, my students will be understanding that things are alike and different as well as that they can belong and can be organized into certain groups. With the Size and Color Teddy Counters, my students will be getting practice with sorting by Size and Color, this will foster comparing and contrasting skills which have shown to help children do better in mathematics later on. The Color Sorting Paint Cans will help my students explore colors and build language while sorting the various objects by color.
