My Students
One of my students could become your most valuable employee in the future if they have the right tools to get them there.
I teach a first grade general education class with English Language Learners.
We are a unique group in that, due to finances, two schools were closed and those students were put together to make a much larger school. It was very emotional as we all felt strong ties to our individual buildings but all families and staff members came together to guarantee our students great success in their behavior and academics. My students work hard to learn to be Respectful, Organized, Aiming High and Responsible, in other words, we ROAR. I am fortunate that my students work so hard to be truly ready for second grade and I have studied the new Common Core Standards to be sure my students have the foundation to be ready for their future college and career lives and to be the most productive employees to their future employers and to be great leaders in their own businesses or possibly political careers.
My Project
What do a balloon, a toy train and Slinky have in common? They can inspire students to become better writers. Our corporation teachers have been through years of 6+1 Writing Traits professional development to guide our students to become amazing authors. I have become proficient in the various ways to use high interest objects, such as the toys mentioned above, to teach the six traits in mini lessons and now I would like provide my students with the necessary tools to organize their writings. These tools would be a binder which includes a notebook, folders, guide, pens and pencils that we as a class will use for writer's workshop time throughout the school year. I believe these binders will help students learn organization and the guides will give easy access and constant reminders to the rules of writing. I believe the binders will establish a foundation for the students to continue to build upon so that they will be indespensable assets to their future employers, maybe you.
Your donation to this project will help ensure that students have opportunities to learn the correct rules and organizational skills to become adults who can write friendly and persuasive letters, speeches, reports and books.
This has always been a necessary skill but with modern day texting and emailing it could become a lost art. Too many adults today have poor grammar and writing skills. We must bring our standards back to excellence so that America can be a competitive nation.
