My Project

Sometimes we are put into an environment with just too much going on around us. My students in particular, become overstimulated quicker than a typically developing student and need a few minutes during the day to take a break from the world. It is difficult for some of them to verbally communicate this to me or even produce the correct words to describe how they are feeling. We are working on expressing ourselves and appropriately requesting when put into these situations.

With this project, I want to give my students the correct items and a safe place to calm their bodies and emotions when it all becomes to much to handle.

I want them to use sensory, fine motor, and cause and effect toys, along with manipulatives and puzzles as soothers and reinforcers to help shape behaviors. Some of these items include books, dolls, sorting toys, crayons, and baskets, animals, sand and putty.

All of my students have autism and overstimulation impacts their academic performance. With the correct tools, my students can learn to self regulate their emotions, communicate their wants/needs, and improve their overall performance in school. I would love to be a small part of their reason to succeed now and in the future.
