Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are energetic kids eager to learn. Over 90% of our students come from low-income households. A large percentage of our families meet the definition of homeless, living in garages or multiple families in one residence. My kids' parents are struggling to pay rent and get food on the table. And yet, our children still want to create, read, write, and learn!

My students worry about coming to school and staying safe; and yet, they still want to come to school to explore, learn and grow.

I am teaching online and trying to meet my students' needs emotionally, as well as academically, during this pandemic. I want them to be safe and stay healthy as they work hard to learn to read, learn to use technology, and at the same time, learn language arts, math, science and social studies.

My Project

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It fuels our bodies and pumps blood to our brains. My kids' families do the best the can, but sometimes their budgets and their cupboards fall short.

Cereal boxes and breakfast bars will help my kids and their families with food and their budgets.

Giving my students a little something for breakfast will help them to get off to a good start in the morning. My hope with this grant is to provide my kids with breakfast foods that will fuel their bodies and their minds to prepare them for our school day.
