This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students have Autism. Our school is in an inner-city, low income neighborhood in North Miami, Florida. Our school has 99% of the students on free or reduced lunch. I have a classroom of 4th and 5th graders.
Teaching students with autism is challenging, but very rewarding.
They require modifications, accommodations and a lot of teacher assistance to reach their academic goals. The every day simple things can be a struggle for them. It is sometimes difficult for them to participate without adult assistance.
My Project
Getting these items into our kitchen will help us to create tasty and healthy recipes. The convection oven, blender, air fryer and pop corn maker will be used to make our monthly recipes.
My students love to participate in cooking activities.
It is a time where they can use their social skills and communication skills. It is also a time where they can learn how to measure ingredients and follow directions. They also learn how to taste different foods with creative recipes. They have so much fun working together making a recipe. And in the end they get to eat a healthy treat as a reward.
