Some Tasty Incentives to Promote Positive Art Room Behavior

My Students

I am an art teacher in Richmond, Va. I teach at a small, neighborhood school in the Northside of Richmond. We have a diverse group of learners at our school, but they are all eager to learn more and explore different possibilities with art. We are a Title I school, and our students may not be as fortunate as others from different parts of Richmond, but we are a student centered community who strive to give our kids everything we possibly can. It is my hope to provide the students a safe place where they are able to not only learn and develop their creativity but also provide a sometimes much-needed escape from the stressors they may find in their lives.

My Project

We all realize that everyone is acclimating to our new normal in the wake of the Pandemic. For Richmond City Schools, and our own Barack Obama Elementary, our students hadn't been physically in the building in 18 months. As a result us teachers have had to adjust to accommodate the developing needs of our kids while adjusting back to "School Life." One of the most successful ways for us to do this is through the use of incentives or treasure boxes to reward those positive behaviors.

I would love to provide some snack foods, drinks, and a few sweet treats to our treasure box, as I know my kids are highly motivated by any kind of yummy goodness.

I am asking for items to use as incentives and motivators such as chips, cookies, and juices. Sometimes it's a little more work to help or students make great choices while visiting with specialty teachers, but these additions I know will help move us in the right direction.
