Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our Explorers are upward-bound learners who come from diverse learning backgrounds. Our classroom is based in a Title I school located in an under-served community in the heart of South Los Angeles. Most of our student population comes from a low socioeconomic background.

Despite their socio-economic challenges, my students are always motivated to learn because of their desire to succeed.

These enthused learners enjoy working in small learning groups who learn best when they are given the opportunity to share and build on each others' knowledge and ideas. Working cooperatively continues to be their gateway to success.

Most of their success is a result of enrichment activities in which they are able to practice their communication skills. Because my classroom is mainly populated by English Learners, language enrichment is a high priority. Along with these enrichment activities, my learners enjoy friendly math challenges, team-building activities, and competitive sports.

My Project

Flexible seating allows students to take control over their learning environment. It gives them the opportunity to make a healthy seating choice that promotes ownership, empowerment, and independence. Prolonged sitting reduces active learning and causes my students to become less interested in school.

All students can benefit from flexible seating as a way to stay healthy and engaged.

With flexible seating, my students will no longer be restricted to a standard classroom desk and/or seating arrangement. My students will have seats that encourage whole-body movement and assist them with the release of excess energy.
