My Students

Do you remember dressing up as a doctor, firefighter, police officer or other community helper you wanted to be when you grew up?

The students in my Pre-K class love playing dress up.

Once the costume is on, they transform themselves into that character. My school is a Title 1 school in NYC. It is in a high poverty area. The students who attend our school enjoy learning and playing with their friends.

My Project

These items would be placed in our dramatic play area. Some of the items requested lend themselves beautifully to our interdisciplinary themes, such as community workers and construction zone. The students will be able to act out the jobs these workers have as we learn about them. They will use new vocabulary and improve their expressive and receptive language skills as they use these materials with their classmates.

The firefighter and doctor costumes will allow my students to use their imaginations and develop language skills in a fun way.

They will improve their fine motor skills as they dress themselves in the costumes. The dress up tree will help to keep the materials organized to the students can easily find what they're looking for.
