Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students need all the extra attention and care. 95% of them are on the free and reduced lunch program. Having some snacks to help as incentives but also as something to give them when they are hungry is always nice to have. Having food on hand will help them stay focused when they come late in the morning and have not had any food. This will help them focus on our reading and writing. Additionally, meeting this basic need of hunger will help them do better overall academically.

Having women's feminine products are needed for many of the girls experiencing puberty for the first time.

This will help them with personal health and hygiene knowledge. Many do not have access to these items and so having them easily available will keep them in better attendance and focused on their education in reading and writing.

Additionally, my room does not have a working air conditioner. Having a fan would be so nice and will help keep them a little cooler.

Lastly, having a chair will help with class moral and behavior. For positive behavior or showing a growth mindset trait students earn "Student of the Month." The student of the month will get recognized by having a special chair all month long, along with their poster and picture displayed in the classroom. This will help them in their social emotional learning, and boost their own confidence in class. Feeling confident and welcome in a space can increase their efforts in reading and writing during class time because they have positive incentives.
