My Project

Our new third-grade reading curriculum includes a unit on astronomy. It is titled Our Solar System and Beyond. This amazing unit takes students on an in-depth journey from the center of our solar system to the outermost reaches of the universe. Students study facts about each of the planets, as well as stars and constellations. They also learn about the history of space exploration. As part of our study on space exploration, students learn about what life is like aboard the International Space Station. Students love learning about how astronauts perform common daily tasks in the zero-gravity environment of space! We look at how astronauts do everything from sleep, to exercise, to shower and wash their hair, and even how they eat!

The resources in this project will help enrich and enliven our study of astronomy!

The students will be so excited to eat like an astronaut with the Space Ice Cream! As part of our culminating activity, students create a travel brochure for one of the planets. The bookmarks will be a valuable resource to students as they create their brochures. I love how they include facts about the different parts of the solar system! I know the students will be so excited to put solar system stickers on their water bottles and to wear the bracelets, and there is such a variety for the students to choose from!
