My Students

We are a diverse community of K-12 learners at 12 sites across Brooklyn. Presently, our school serves over 563 students classified with a range of social, emotional and cognitive challenges including, but not limited to: autism spectrum disorders, intellectual and cognitive disabilities and emotional disturbances.

Each student comes to us with unique and often severe challenges that have negatively impacted their ability to succeed in a general education setting.

Just under 90% of our students are Title I eligible, meaning that they are living at or below the poverty line.

My Project

I am excited to offer my students the chance to begin working with alternative energy generation and we are going to begin with solar. Using the panel and generator that we are requesting, students will develop their understanding of the process of collecting solar energy and redistributing it into 'the grid,' as illustrated by our generator.

Understanding how energy and electricity work is an important foundation for our students as we begin looking at innovation in technology and renewable resources.

Using their understanding of solar energy, students will be tasked with identifying other aspects of our life that provide for improvement via sustainability and renewable resources.
